Soma Saito's 2nd full album "in Bloom" was released on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

―― Congratulations on the release of the 2nd full album “IN BLOOM”!How was the production?

Thank you.Originally, I decided to release an album at the end of 2020, and there were three songs in the "In Bloom" series distributed in June, so it seems like I had been producing songs all the time.But in 2020, I had more time at home, so I was able to use that time to work on demo production.I was originally a good time to make songs and hobbies, so it was fun to have a lot of time to think.However, I thought that the stock had accumulated quite a bit, but when I started scrutinizing the album song, there were many songs that were good as a song, but not suitable for "IN BLOOM".

――What was the difference between the songs you are facing and the songs that are not?

Although it is average, I selected the song based on those that do not suffer the direction of the song.If you select the song normally, it will be your favorite flow.For example, the second song is a good song for BPM, or I want to end with a magnificent song at the end.If I chose the song this time, it would be similar to the 1st album "Quantum Stranger" (released December 19, 2018).In addition, I wanted to record songs that would not be worn by three songs, "Petrikor", "Summerholic!"

The lead song on the album is "CARPOOL", but this is not decided just before the MV shooting.There were two other candidates, and I was worried about the three songs: "Schrodinger Girl" or a rock ballad song of 6/8 beats -this time it was not included.It is also a good song, but there was also a part close to "Pallet" and "Crystal World" (included in the 1st album "Quantum Stranger") and "Memento" (included in the mini album "My Blue Vacation"), so this time.I wonder if it doesn't have to be the timing.

――It may not be blurred with your favorite worldview and the world view you want to draw.

One of the big motifs I have often drawn is the "end of the world", but this time I wanted to draw "beyond the end of the world".So, although it is a similar motif, I think that the way of hearing and appearance is changing.

―― Certainly, if you draw a “end of the world” further, the depth is likely to increase.Would you like to tell us your thoughts in the album title "IN BLOOM" again?

Originally, when I was planning to release "Petricor" as a single in June, all three songs were trying to make a single song on the theme of rain.There was a song with a theme like "flowers and rain" in the song that was the candidate.At that time, the song name I was thinking in was "Flowers" or "in Bloom".The reason why I chose flowers as the theme was that the vegetation sprouted again after the world was over and it rained.From there, it led to the word "in bloom".

There is another meaning.When reading this album, the keyword common to all songs is "delusion".Every song is written in subjective lyrics.For the main character of the song, I'm just "in Bloom" now, but when a third party looks at it, it's a strange song that it's not just happy.Depending on the song, it's afraid or a strange feeling.The word “in bloom” itself is a positive word, and I think the main characters of the song are “in bloom”, but that's why it's introspective and subjective ...There are many songs that are not (laughs).With that in mind, the title "in Bloom" is the title.

――It is also reflected in the artwork of the jacket.It looks like he is spending a fulfilling time in the room, and in fact, the room is outdoors.

It's a surrealism -like view.So, the way of writing the lyrics is also changed.If you listen or read it literally, you can see the meaning of it, but it is just superficial.It's just a view from one angle.In fact, the nuances that are not exactly what the words are, are scattered in songs and lyrics.

――What is the way to enjoy things and enjoy things?

what about……?I like reading, but I only knew how to read the writer theory until high school.The writer's theory is, for example, Osamu Dazai's work, how to read an approach like "Osamu Dazai has lived this kind of life, so he writes such a novel."However, there is a way to read the writer and the work as something that has nothing to do with the work.That is text.When I was a high school or college student, I was surprised to see how to read text, "There is a way to enjoy the creator and the created work!"

One of the ways to enjoy entertainment is to enjoy the work with your own interpretation.I myself like the work that gently mature after watching, "What did that scene mean?"What is it?I hope that kind of thing can be put out for my own songs.This has been often said in meetings since the debut song "Fish Story" (June 7, 2017).

―― You were worried about the lead song, but how about the composition?

I was worried about the song order.That's why I was worried about increasing or reducing the number of songs.As a result, the first half is catchy, and it becomes deeper as you go in the second half.The 10th song, "Isana", is actually a standing position, which is the last track, and the eleventh song "Last Fireworks" was placed in this position with an image like an end roll.As the album did not get that bright content, it also means that it will end with a song that can have a little hope for the next time.Then, I thought that the three songs, "Petricor", "Summerholic!" And "Pallet", would be easier to understand the flow from the "in Bloom" series to the album.

However, as with any creative product, it is the first thing that is established after listening and watching.Even though I have the intent I have just talked about, not everything is meaningful.I think there are things that come out of the unconscious areas that the creator is not conscious, so on the contrary, when I get my impressions, I realize that "I see, is there a way of view?"That's why it's interesting.

――It was that the last track was actually very nice.The lyrics are packed with the theme of "flowers and rain".

Anyway, it's a song that takes more than 8 minutes.There was a plan that ended with "Isana", but it would inevitably look like the atmosphere after listening to the "crystal world", so by adding another song "Last Fireworks", it is the one.I wonder if I could go first.

――It is an album with many introspective and subjective songs, but what songs do you think is particularly outstanding?

Well, I think that "Petrikor" was able to write a good song.For songs other than "Petrikor", weird people enjoy each world, but "kitchen" has become a very special song.The song itself has been around for a long time, and it's a song that has just been written as a hobby.At that time, there was no lyrics yet, but in 2020 it was the lyrics of this theme because the time to cook myself during the self -restraint period increased.This is the biggest change of the year, not just music, but also trying to express something that I didn't dare to express.It was a life around the kitchen for me.

―― “Kitchen” is a song that is drawn into a bossa nova -like arrangement and a sudden lyrics.

I asked the arranger SAKU and sampled the sound of the kitchen equipment to make a rhythm truck.In the past, I think it was a unique and good song, but I didn't know where to use it, or I didn't think of the lyrics at all.However, it was a song that was completed because I created an album "in Bloom" in 2020.I think that was the world view born because I had time to think.The lyrics are "probably not the best to save the world," but the people on this album are all those who have a leap in their ideas and are not very logical.

――Saito himself is a logical impression ...

As in the voice actor, I was originally a type of person who wanted to walk logically to the character I play.But the way of thinking gradually changed as "not only that".It is just where the specific gravity of my interest has shifted to the contradictions and sensitivity that humans have.Therefore, both the "kitchen" and other songs were made by the logic and ideas flew away, but I thought it was not a mistake.

―― So, did the lyrics change change?

Until now, I really wanted to make these lyrics, but I often stop because I would wear them.But this time, this lyrics are the most appropriate for this part, so I made it without changing it.While there were songs that I made as I wanted, the melody was a Western -style "Shredinger Girl", so it was difficult to put Japanese lyrics and struggled.

At the stage of song making, it is made with temporary lyrics in an appropriate English -like language, so I have a hard time writing Japanese lyrics later (laughs)."Schledinger Girl" is trying to make a cool song, but has been postponed with the lyrics of fictional languages.But when the recording went on and the whole album gradually came to see, I thought it might not be very interesting to make a cool song.As a result, I was in charge of Chuuni song in the album (laughs).I liked using difficult words as it was, but that was actually easy.Then I wrote that I wanted to make a more meta -like expression.Because the protagonist of this song seemed to be strong.Like the "kitchen", there may be many lyrics that are directly connected to the hero and the world view.

――It's interesting to change in the opposite direction from a cool song to the middle two.

Even if you talk in this way, I don't think humans are logical creatures at all.What you are thinking in your head is that you haven't been able to write so much.I would like to be able to express such things that have not been completely verbalized in the form of entertainment.Nevertheless, "Shredinger Girl" and "BOOKMARK" are songs that are written in calculations.

Conversely, the song and melody were created from the beginning.It seems to be an album that will be released in winter, and it is a song made with good melodies and aiming for songs of Japanese guitar songs with dark and shadow.But I couldn't make a song just before the MV shooting.Then, I tried to sing once and try to make it with my favorite chords.Then, something that was reasonable came out.I think that the song has passed various processes.

―― Among the albums, the color is unique to Vampire Weekend.

This is a song made while playing with the music production app preset on the iPad.You can make a small truck simply by combining the loop material that is originally included.It is a unique development song, but that is because it was made with a loop.The basic chord progression has not changed much, and it is a song with a Western -style approach that the melody of beats and songs changes rapidly.I wonder if the song ends when the rust starts.At first, the demonstration I made was a little cooler.That was the tone similar to "BOOKMARK".However, ESME MORI made a cool arrangement that made the beat more beaten, so it became a unique and sloppy song.

――Speaking of SME, songs are also produced in Hypnosis Mike, but was that the encounter there?

The first thing I met was "Hypnosis Mike", but I listened to Awesome City Club and IRI, which ESME provides songs.I thought that the arrangement of music that was a groove sound of 16 beats and the electronics of Fan Khuo was very nice.When the demonstration of "Vampire Weekend" is completed, I would like to ask for a truck -related one for arranging!When I asked ESME, I was able to accept it.As a result, I was very grateful because I made a cool arrangement than my expected.

――It is impressive that many songs are not bound by orthodox development.

I agree.I've always wanted to play songs that are not so-called J-POP-like structures.But this time, I made it rather than made it with consciousness, but if I wanted to do that song.When the staff and ESME listened to "Vampire Weekend", I said, "Isn't it better if I had a catchy rust?"I didn't come (laughs).And when I finally thought the rust came, the song ended there.But that's right.

――It's amazing because you want to do that.

I'm not a writer who makes music production as a profession, so I want to take care of the parts that I don't think.The "Last Fireworks" was a song that I made because there was no so -called easy -to -understand pop in the album, but the development after the rust is quite special.Because it is up to the E -melody, it was a type of song that had a very different impression of the song between watching only the rust with a cross fade or the like.As I made it, I was surprised in myself, "Is that so!"There were so many parts that I made with the feeling, so I checked the melody of the song while hitting the MIDI keyboard in the studio.The name is Souma Saito, the songwriting composition, but I am grateful that you can make it with everyone with everyone in recording.The chorus work also brought about 4 patterns and actually sang and checked.It's fun to be able to make things that are not completed in your head.

―― “BOOKMARK” is also arranged by Mr. Saito himself.

I'm doing it with me and my friend J.This song was a candidate song for the coupling when "Petricor" was released as a single.I had been lying for a while, but one day I gave Mr. J's data and listened, and put on the wrap and arranged it.The arrangement was really cool, so I decided to use it.Regarding arrangements, other songs also tell you your ideas at the demo stage, but for "Bookmark", we make use of what J created.

―― The lyrics are quite straightforward than other songs.

It's a song that sang the unique feelings of school days.I spent all the day after all, but it wasn't a wasted time.I wrote it because I wish I could feel the unique feeling of that school days.Personally, about 20 years old ... I imagine the bluishness unique to college students.The lyrics are both the blue of the world of "4:00 am" and the bluish person as a person.Surely, I think everyone is in a year when I thought ska was cool.I really have a hot feeling, but somewhere I try to sing, "I'm not serious."So, I'm singing around the year when I think I'm cool.

The wrap part is also the same.The wrap part that Mr. J sings was straight instead of technical, but I dared to wrap the part that I was singing.The lyrics of "Tens of thousands of light years away" sings, imagining the hero who intends to approach the J-POP-like approach.I guess this person is shy (laughs).

――You are aware of how you can see from others (laughs).

Yes Yes.Looking back a few years later, I think it will be complicated, saying, "I was at this time (laughs)."But for them at that time, it was an irreplaceable time.That's why I chose the title "BOOKMARK" with the meaning of wanting to keep the bookmark.There is a sound flipping the page in the song, but this is also J's arrangement.It's really nice to turn the page and finally get a book closing.This time, I made it while taking care of humor, so there aren't many songs that are 100 % cool.Rather than that, I felt more lovable if there was a distortedness somewhere.I think it was an album full of my current feeling.

――I think it's exactly a “BOOKMARK” for the album, but the atmosphere before and after “BOOKMARK” changes drastically.The development of "Canary", "Isana", and "Last Fireworks" in the second half are wonderful.

"Canary" is too dark (laughs).I was just working on beat -based songs such as "Vampire Weekend" and "BOOKMARK", so I wanted to do a quiet song with that reaction.I want to have an atmosphere like Elliott Smith.The chord progression of this song is a very royal road, and it is used for various songs.The fact that it is used in various songs means that the chord progression alone may appeal to the human heart.With that in mind, a song that simply had only a berth (A melody) and a hook (rust) was completed.

――The raw singing style is also interesting, but how was your recording?

I recorded on the same day as the "kitchen".I'm trying various ways to sing this time, but the "kitchen" sings without much voice.By doing so, the nuances of the voice can be put on the microphone well.On the other hand, "Canary" is included in a singing style that is like playing raw.The song is blurred in terms of the content of the lyrics, so I hope that the stunned atmosphere can be sung.That's why I sing only twice.Speaking of the goodness of the song, I couldn't sing so well, but I wanted this song to be more fresh than that, so I gave priority to that.This song contains cello solo, but it's so wonderful.I couldn't attend the recording, but I was impressed with the ideal sound.And it seems to be the first take.With the sound of that solo, I feel that the outline of the song is very clear.It was a compact song that was very impressive.

―― It's a song with a poetry atmosphere rather than one story.

It's a cut -up -like, fragmentary lyrics, so I'm glad if you can feel it.

――It's amazing to be able to express a very delicate and ambiguous view of the world like “Canary”.

As a voice actor, I'm not good at expressing something clear.So, even if I express it like "I'm absolutely okay, leave it to me!"Is it indecisive (laughs)?Rather, I am very attracted to the ambiguous thing, like the theme of "seasonal relaxation".I like to express the ambiguous state as lyrics and songs, rather than giving such ambiguous things.

2020 was a year, thinking about what to do as a single person, as a voice actor, and as an artist.I couldn't work for about two months during my self -restraint period, but it was a lot of fun when I played for the first time in a long time after a long time.Once again, I was able to realize that what I liked was this.The same goes for music.I bought a computer and equipment, and I was able to write various stories while staying at home, and I realized that I really liked music.It was a year when I felt that it could be delivered as a CD.
