In the 4th installment of the series, "It's enough to know about 'IP' responsible for layer 3 packet transfer", I explained the representative technology of layer 3, 'IP'. The typical devices that operate there are, of course, routers and L3 switches.

 Routers and L3 switches are similar but different, but they share the same role of connecting networks and forwarding packets. Roughly speaking, an L3 switch can be thought of as a combination of multiple L2 switches and routers. If you're a new IT person, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with routers first.
